Masbate → Santa Margarita (Samar)
Crossing to western Samar is easier than it looks — Santa Margarita sits on the Maharlika Highway just north of Calbayog. Two solid ways:
⛴️ Option 1 — Direct ferry to Calbayog (simplest)
~₱600- Starhorse RORO Masbate City → Calbayog, Tue/Thu/Sat dep 02:00 (~6h, ~₱500)
- Jeepney or van Calbayog → Santa Margarita (~30–40 min on the Maharlika Hwy)
⏱ ~8h💡 The 2 AM departure means boarding late Mon/Wed/Fri evening — arrive at the pier early.
🚐 Option 2 — Overland via Matnog + Allen (daily, more legs)
~₱1,400- Montenegro fastcraft Masbate City → Pilar (~2h, ₱720)
- Van Pilar → Matnog port, southern tip of Sorsogon (~2h)
- Frequent ferry Matnog → Allen, Samar (~1.5h, ~₱250)
- Van Allen → Santa Margarita (~1.5h)
⏱ ~9–10h💡 Runs every day — the fallback when the Starhorse days don't fit.
⛴️ Option 3 — Via Cataingan → Cebu → Calbayog (the long way, rarely worth it)
₱2,500+- Only if you're combining with a Cebu stop — otherwise use options 1 or 2
